Rumor Control: There has been speculation floating around about a project that I’ve been involved with lately and I wanted to take a moment and dispel any myths and scuttlebutt that there may be out there.

Yes – I am wrapping up a new project. Actually it’s a new book and I am so very excited about it. Long story short, I was approached by a publishing house to write a book that would make a critical impact on those people who have just been diagnosed with Breast Cancer. It’s aim is to be an emergency “intervention” of sorts at a time when the newly diagnosed patient has just been hit with news that has literally brought their life to a halt leaving them shaken, afraid and without hope.

I hope that everyone is having an awesome year so far! So many of you have been requesting updates and I feel so bad for not keeping up with this but I have been doing so much better recently since I’ve changed up my treatment medications. I really feel that I’ve finally broke back into the light after a long hard swim to the surface. I’ having difficulty with the bone in my jaw and am off to have a biopsy on it this afternoon…cross your fingers! I just want you to know how much I appreciate you and your prayers!

I finally opened up time in my schedule and decided to read through all of your comments. They literally brought tears to my eyes. I love each of you so much! I feel that I am so blessed to have friends such as you! I’m not sure what I would do without you!!

I visited with my mom this morning. As usual one can’t help but gain something from her even when she’s in recovery mode so I thought I should pass it along.

Do you remember the last time you found yourself in the middle of a fight? Not as a referee mind you, but as one in a frantic state of blocking, jabbing and punching; waiting for the opportunity to land the blow that will finally drop your opponent to the canvas. I’ve had my share of these bouts in my life; many a time wondering if I would be the hapless fellow to hit the mat…face first!

Now, I’ve never really been in an authentic boxing match nor will I since Robby Kelly took me out in under two minutes when our physical education teacher had all the kids try out boxing in fourth grade gym class. I still contend that Robbie sucker punched me when I was distracted by Tracy Campbell, my fourth grade girlfriend wanna-be. She was unimpressed so I decided not to push for a Marquess of Queensberry ruling thus ending my hopeful career in the ring. Or so I thought.

Since then, I’ve been in daily training. Blocking, jabbing and punching. This was not what I had intended growing up but when you lived with “Cinderella Woman” you do the reps every day simply because you couldn’t look at yourself in the mirror if your mom could take it on the chin better than you! You learn a lot from the champ. You learn that the only place you’ll find life fair is in the dictionary.  You learn that you are not the only one in the ring and that in this match you can tag team and give someone a helping hand. Watching her get up, get dressed and get to work on days that she should have stayed in bed eliminated any chance of my missing school due to a little runny nose or scraped knee. Forget about it. That taught me that the opponent to overcome was really myself.

Today, I’m still blocking, jabbing and punching but I’ve learned something else from my mom. I’ve learned to move. Move and move and move. If you’re only blocking, punching and jabbing you’re gonna get K.O.’d if you just stand there.  Sure we can learn all the tips, tricks and skills that we need to succeed in life but if you don’t put feet on them you’re just a sitting duck and life is going pull a “rope-a-dope” on you. I learned that from her. That will never happen to her because that woman’s got inertia like no other person I know.

Constantly moving has been one of the hardest lessons for me to learn. Move-Jab-Move-Block-Move-Punch-Move! What a difference! Sure, you’ll catch a few blows now and again. A sick family member. A job loss for your spouse. A financial crisis. The death of a loved one. We must live through these events but rest assured; if you MOVE it’s less likely the hits will be as devastating than if you were just standing still. Move-Jab-Move-Block-Move-Punch-Move and if you get a chance look around to see if you need to tag with a friend.

That’s what mom taught me and continues to teach me. I believe that I owe it to her to pass on this lesson to others.

Today, I went to visit mom and she wanted me to shoot a video of her for you. So here she is…my mom (blocking, jabbing, punching and moving)!

Happy Monday! I just want to start this blessed day by saying ‘thank you’ for all of your emails, comments and prayers. I have to say, it’s been a tough couple of weeks since my last radiation treatment.  I’ve wanted to get a video out to everyone but just didn’t have the strength to do it.  I’m afraid that by the time I got dressed and slapped makeup I would have had to shoot the video laying on the floor due to exhaustion. But, thanks to your prayers I am seeing tiny bits of energy returning.  I promise to hang in there because I’ve got a lot of living to do, my friends and that’s just how it is.

So, I have to be honest and let you know that I’m not typing this message myself…I have my son and helper, Jeff acting as my assistant until I’m back up to 100%.  But I wanted to get back in touch with you because being with you is my passion!

I’ve been thinking about a girl I’ve been coaching lately who asked me to help her achieve her ambition of directorship.  After listening to her a few minutes, I asked her a simple question. “Why do you want to be a director?”  I wanted to give her a chance to explain to me why she wanted that title…to tell me something like ” I want to be a director because I want a better life for myself, my husband and my children.” Instead, she danced back and forth with her attempt to answer my question. She just couldn’t say the words. The fact was that she just didn’t have the words.

What if you had one chance to tell the world why you want to achieve your dream and why the world should give you the chance to go after it? Without the “why” firmly planted in your mind you’ll never have the driving force that will see you through the disappointments and falls that will confront you on your journey.

I explained to the would be future-director that there was one thing that she lacked. It was the one thing that she could absolutely, indisputably not do without. It wasn’t her datebook. It wasn’t her phone. It wasn’t even her inventory. I then told her what I want to tell you.

My friends, your success in life balances on one tiny but essentially critical point. Your Proposition.

Propositions are how the world of business works. Tom Thumb offers food. You give them money, they give you fruits, vegetables, etc. Home Depot offers home improvement products. You give them money, they give you a garden hose. We all make propositions.

Now, tell me…do you know what your proposition is? More importantly, do your customers or potential recruits clearly know what your proposition is?  If you’re a little vague on this point, you need to place yourself in their shoes.  Doing this will help you to you better clarify your proposition. So, let’s imagine we are the potential recruit.

• Why are you trying to recruit me?
• What will it cost me (time/capital)?
• Why should I believe you?
• What’s in it for me?

Trying to be successful in your personal or business life without clear definable answers to those questions is like trying to navigate the desert without a compass and a map. It’s hopeless. You see, even though people will usually make their decisions about you and your product based on emotion they end up justifying them with logic. You must remember that when thinking about those questions. When you reach the answers to these questions you will be able to take the next step in creating Your Unique Proposition.

That’s when we’ll continue this discussion and discover how your Unique Proposition is created and the dramatic impact it will have on your success in life.  Until then…

Happy Memorial Day my friends! First, I want to take a moment to sincerely thank those of you who have someone close who has paid the ultimate price in service to our country.  I know that you did not ask for this honor and that you’d do anything to trade that honor to have your loved one’s back.  Just know that millions around the world are in debt to you and to the loved one who stood up when they could not.  As it is said in John 15:13; “No one shows greater love than when he lays down his life for his friends.”

We are truly blessed for their sacrifices and it is they who have continued in the highest example given to us by our Savior, Jesus Christ, who stood up and took our place when we could not.  So from the bottom om my heart…thank you and may we all remember the men and women who have stood up so that we may live in liberty, truth and free from fear.  Remember them by holding tight to the truth of where our liberty and rights comes from.  Remember them by reminding others that it does not come from man…it comes our Creator.

In this Magic Monday I want to talk about the priorities of a team leader.  Because you know I think it’s so important, we constantly, constantly want to work at keeping a balance in our life.  We know that in all phases of our life whether it’s spiritual or family – all phases, our careers – we want to keep a balance.  I think one of the greatest frustrations, especially when we’re brand new as a leader – but not just new, I hear team leaders that are seasoned really get frustrated as to what our priorities should be.  What do I need to be doing?  What’s my work description?

I think first off, let me just remind you of this – we women have so many hats to wear. We need a balance in our homes, in our family life, so go back to that wheel of life and make sure you’ve got a balance in all areas.

Secondly, have your ideal week. I teach this all the time, I don’t know how people live without this – take a weekly plan sheet and map out your ideal week. We know that doesn’t mean every week goes that way, but have the ideal week and color code it, do it however you want to do it so you know when are your meetings, when do you do your newsletter, when is your classes, when is your family time, when is your structured spiritual time. Have it mapped out; that will help you so much in being able to take one hat off and put the other hat on. Now, I realize there are times when we’re so busy we don’t take them off, we stack them up. I think that’s an important part of being a good director, is we need to know how to do several things at one time, and that’s a crucial part of it to. But get your ideal week, be sure you have that.

Be sure you know what your goals are, both your long-term and your short-term goals. I don’t know how you think; I don’t know whether you think in terms of five years or ten years – I think in five-year segments, I really do, in my mind. If you’re a brand new director, I believe with all my heart that if you do what we train on and teach on today, I believe that you can be a national in five years. I truly believe that, and we’ll explain why as we go along. But it’s just a consistent effort, okay?

Again, let me remind you, these are things you need to be sure you have in place before we get into your priorities, is have that family on your side. You know, we’ve got directors at the top that did it in spite of their man, and we’ve got directors that did it without their man, but it’s so much sweeter, if you have a man in your life, that you do it with your man. It truly is. So getting your family behind you, and getting the kids – and ladies, we can win them over, we’re smart, and we can win them over regardless of what age. Of course, the younger they are, the more trainable they are, and so if you get started in your business when they’re young, they’re better trained. But even those wonderful teenagers…we can win them over. And bribery is sometimes necessary, but get them on your side, okay?

Alright, let’s talk about what I believe are the team leader’s priorities.  Number one responsibility, leaders and directors, is to HOLD CLASSES! I know you don’t want to hear that, especially if you’re a seasoned director.  But my friends, it’s crucial, because it is at those classes that you’re going to find, number one, those business associates that you want. And directors, you should always be the best recruiter in your unit, always.  So you need to find those quality, professional women we just talked about.  And you are going to find them at your classes, so you need to hold classes.  I hate to put a number on it – you know, a lot of people like to say, okay, three a week until your unit is this size, then two a week until it’s this size, then one a week – I don’t really like to do that.  I believe directors; you can hold three classes a week.  I truly believe you can do that with the other duties and responsibilities that you have.  I think we blow it out of proportion, and it doesn’t matter when you have them, you can work out your own schedule.  It doesn’t matter if you do them all three on Saturday, or you do them scattered throughout the week, it doesn’t matter, but you need to hold them!

On your ideal weekly plan sheet, put your three spots wherever they’re going to be, and then triple book them, because in today’s marketplace you’ve got to triple book! As you know, people are so busy, and number two, their word is no longer their bond.  Mary Kay taught us, double book, and that was back in the 60s and 70s.  Well, today you’ve got to triple book – it’s a sign of the times.  But if you have them in three slots, then of course you can always dovetail, and dovetail is something we don’t teach and train enough on anymore, but you can always dovetail to someone in your unit, and I made sure I always dovetailed to someone I knew would be great.  I didn’t do much dovetailing to “bless her heart, she needs help” because odds are she wouldn’t do a good class.  Those people that were sitting around waiting on a dovetail – that used to happen but I don’t even hear of that anymore.  People used to sit around and wait on a dovetail, and they were not the ones I’d dovetail to.  I’d dovetail to my sharpest, most active, productive people, because I want to help them move on up and because they deserve it.

Today was my final radiation treatment…YAY!!  Now we must wait a while before we can know how effective my treatments were. Meanwhile, my job is to work on getting my energy back and according to my physicians that may be 2-3 weeks. Yuck!
